I am happy to report that Robert Quah, SSTF chairman and SRA president, has had a meeting with Brickfields police over the recent spate of snatch thefts along our main road and especially around Jalan Taman Seputeh 1, around the U-turn at the Mid Valley loop road down to Jalan Syed Putra.
Of course, we hope to see more police action and that will be forthcoming.
Yes, we can also strike back. We are plugging the "escape holes" between the Mid Valley loop road and Jalan TS1. The Mid Valley management has agreed to help out with more materials to instal more barriers so motorcyclists cannot "ride over the barriers" or "squeeze through openings". How that will be done will be left to SSTF area volunteer (and now SRA Committee Member) Nisha to work out with Mid Valley.

Daylight Robbery
As part of my morning exercise routine, I often cycle around the crescent formed by roads Taman Seputeh 2, 3 and 4. Every time I do this route I have been very impressed when I meet a dear old lady with her maid out exercising with the aid of a ‘Zimmer frame’. She can just about walk and may only cover a hundred yards in 20 minutes, but as least she is getting out and making the effort.
I always gain pleasure and inspiration from her determination, her lovely smile and her cheery ‘Good Morning’ greeting.
Today [Thursday 26th march 2009] however it was a very different story, It was approximately 8.35am when I met this dear lady & her maid, as I cycled along Taman Seputeh 3; but this time they were accompanied by several other ladies, and there seem to be some commotion. The dear old lady (I think her name is Mrs Hewi, or something like that – sorry about the spelling), had tears in her eyes, and the maid was also crying.
The other ladies then helped the old lady into a car and drove her 50 meters to her house.
I now knew there was something not right, so I stopped and chatted with several people including a Mrs Tan, who lives very nearby.
It turns out that two ‘Malay speaking’ youths on a motorcycle approached the lady and the maid. The pillion rider produced a knife, and ordered them not to scream or shout. They then pushed the old lady to the floor and snatched her gold necklace before riding off!
It must have happened literally a minute or maximum two before I arrived as I did not see any motorcycle exiting onto Taman Seputeh, and another maid said the went out of Taman Seputeh 3.
Two minutes earlier and I would have witnessed this foul act taking place. I know I could not have stood back, and done nothing, and who knows what the outcome might have been. Maybe it was a blessing for me, but for sure I would have attacked, with only my bicycle, fists and feet as weapons; but against a moron with a knife the outcome is by no means certain.
Scary, but yet more evidence that Seputeh is no longer the safe place it used to be, and you don’t have to wait until it is dark.
Now having related this very current & topical story, from a personal perspective, I have to hide it away under ‘Comments’ for no one to see!
Why can't the Forum Moderator open it up for general comments from the public? What are you scared off? Topics can still be approved before posting, moderated, or deleted as is currently the case.
When can we have a real Seputeh Residents Forum, or shall I set one up myself?
