Security Scheme starts Nov 1 -- Sign Up Now
The SRA Security Committee (SSC) is now ready to launch the SRA Security Scheme for Seputeh on Nov 1, 2009.
We have gone through a thorough and painstaking process of gathering feedback from residents, evaluating various options and finally selecting a service provider.
Our entire journey – from call for tenders to several rounds of evaluation and finally, awarding the tender to the successful bidder – has undergone scrutiny by 11 residents on Sept 5. These 11 scrutineers are independent from the SRA Committee and the SSC.
Further, they selected from amongst them, three individuals to peruse the process as well as details of the bids and how the SSC made its decision. These three, Mr Tan Chin Shu, Encik Sulaiman Ahmad and Mr Naveen Kumar, went through the documents for two hours on Sept 8 and were satisfied with the transparency and governance standards adopted by the SSC.
Having cleared these two levels of scrutiny, we proceeded into final negotiations with the successful bidder – Force One Security Sdn Bhd – from Sept 8 till end-September. We have now signed the service agreement for patrols to start on Nov 1.
For the scheme to work, we need the support of everyone in Seputeh. Here, we are lucky to have volunteers to be street representatives. In the next few days, these street representatives and SRA Committee members will visit you to seek your subscription to the scheme.
On behalf of the SRA Security Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us for a simple "launch" of our scheme on Saturday, 31 October, 2009 at 9 pm at the playground in front of the shophouses along Jalan Teluk Pulai. Please sign up and help contribute towards enhanced security in Seputeh.
All cheques should be issued to "SRA Security Fund" and all payments will be issued a receipt. We do not encourage you to pay cash but if you do, please insist on an official receipt immediately. Thank you.
Best regards,

I am interest to know if the new security guards all speak English?
I understand that there was an attempted handbag snatch in Taman Seputeh 6 only last week, by two thugs on separate motorcycles.
They were unsuccessful, but the lady suffered bruising and of course mental trauma! Did the new security guards manage to apprehend these thugs?
What is the procedure the lady should have followed in order to assist in the arrest of the perpetrators?
As far as I know, the guards speak only a smattering of English. It's best to call the Seputeh Security Hotline at 016-2131778 if you need help.
In this particular case, it's best the lady lodge a police report. The police need to know how rampant it is so they will deploy the resources necessary.
The security scheme is to supplement the police's obligation to protect and provide security.

Learning from others who had it rough when implementing the security scheme.
This article is from The Star Online (http://thestar.com.my)URL: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/12/11/central/5252353&sec=central __________________________________________________________________________ CRIME rate had certainly dropped in Damansara Jaya since the residents implemented their own security scheme nine years ago with regular patrolling. In December 2008, they took a bolder step by blocking off some roads after complaints of robbery and snatch thefts in the neighbourhood. Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association (DJROA) chairman Yew Cheng Hoe said the decision to close some of the roads did not take off smoothly at first. However, after working closely with the local council and submitting the plans, they managed to do so. Hoe was speaking during the launch of the DJROA Community Policing scheme aimed at complementing the existing security scheme.Timely: Nik Nazmi (right) who is also the Seri Setia assemblyman launching the Community Policing scheme while other guests look on. At present, residents in Damansara Jaya pay about RM60 for the gated and guarded concept in their area according to zones. DJROA had divided the area into four zones, Jalan SS22 (zone A and B) Jalan SS22A (zone C), Jalan SS22/39 and Jalan SS22/37 (zone D). Hoe said with the community policing scheme, police officers would be patrolling the neighbourhood together with the residents. his is not only to bring down the crime rate but also to allow residents to get to know each other better,?said Hoe. He added that the police officers would also be guiding and teaching the residents the do and dont involved in patrolling. Residents Ronald Ng and John Chen said the move was a good way of getting to know one neighbour. any of us do not bother to know much about our neighbours until something bad happens in the area,?said Ng. Also present at the launch was Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim political secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who launched the scheme by handing out vests to heads of each DJROA zone.
There were some recent reports about a wave of break-ins after the security scheme was implemented. Any word from the SRA committee on this matter? What are the actual police statistics on crime before the scheme, and after the scheme was set up? Did the implementation of the scheme lead to a drop in police patrols and an increase in burgled houses? I am worried that the guards might be working with the burglars. There is a rumour that a house was burgled, and its contents carted off with an entire lorry!
I tried to post a message to the Yahoo newsgroup but the message failed to get through. What is happening on that end?
Truly concerned,
